Recipe

Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, is a popular herb used in Ayurvedic Medicine for thousands of years. In Indian culture, the Tulsi plant is considered sacred because of the number of medicinal benefits it offers. It is used to treat and prevent chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, cancer, and allergies, as well as acute illnesses, including the common cold, flu, respiratory infections, fever, and headaches. Tulsi has a calming effect on the nervous system; it is stress relieving and slightly energizing, helping the body and mind to cope with imbalances that can cause illness. This tea recipe includes hibiscus, lemongrass, and ginger, which make the tea even more potent and tasty.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of filtered water

  • 1 tsp. Tulsi (or one tea bag of Tulsi Original from Organic India

  • 1 tsp. dry hibiscus flowers

  • 1 tsp. lemongrass*

  • A few slices of fresh ginger

  • Raw honey (optional)

  • Fresh lemon juice to taste (optional)

Method:

Boil water; add all ingredients except for honey and lemon. Let the tea steep for about 15 minutes. Strain into a cup and add honey and lemon juice. Drink the tea warm or cold.

* Lemongrass is not recommended for anyone with hypothyroid. Use nettle leaves instead.
